Kate McAlister

Head of Student Welfare and Safeguarding @ Office for Students (OfS)

Kate was appointed as the Head of Student Welfare and Safeguarding at the Office for Students (OfS) in January 2019 and has been leading work to develop the OfS’s approach to regulating at sector level to challenge and support providers to create the conditions for a safe, healthy and inclusive higher education sector that supports students to thrive.

Prior to this, Kate worked in various role for the Higher Education Funding Council for England since 2007 which included leading the development and delivery of HEFCE’s Prevent duty monitoring responsibilities and leading a range of strategic projects as the Head of Strategic Development and previously as the Executive Adviser to the Chief Executive. Kate also led a range of strategic initiatives supporting the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Bath during a twelve month secondment. Kate started her early career working as a management consultant specialising in large-scale change programmes within the public sector, most notably within the Ministry of Defence.
